Eligibility: All children ages 13 – 17 are eligible to participate in the “Ready, Set, Wear It!” Video Contest.

Acknowledgements: One winner and one runner-up will be announced. The two selected winning entries will appear on the North “Ready, Set, Wear It!” website (, the North American Safe Boating Campaign website ( and the “Wear It!” social media web sites (including Facebook and YouTube).

Prize Package: The two selected winners will receive a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket. If the winners are over the age of 16 (with proof of age), they can request an inflatable life jacket in place of the inherently buoyant life jacket given to the winner. The winners will also receive a “Wear It!” Safe Summer package to include a safety whistle, first aid kit, and a Boating Safety “Sidekicks” Go Boating activity booklet.

Entrants must submit an original video thirty (30) seconds – one minute in length on one or more issues or topics relating to the importance of always wearing a life jacket while boating and/or how to convince an adult to wear a life jacket at all times while boating. The video should convey effective ways to promote more life jacket wear in both teens and adults and may not contain any work (in whole or in part) which is the subject of a copyright or infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party. Video must be the original work of the entrant.

To enter, read the guidelines and accept them, then send the video and application to Also submit the Model and Talent Release, available on the website. Entry must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM Eastern Daylight Time on May 16, 2012. Limit of one entry per person. Entries become the sole property of the National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) and will be neither acknowledged nor returned.

Judging/Voting: Qualified Subject Matter Experts will judge video entries on the basis of concept/idea; effectiveness of the message; and creativity. Accepted entries will be posted to the “Ready, Set, Wear It!” web site ( and to the “Ready, Set, Wear It!” Facebook and YouTube accounts. Winners will be posted on the website, the Facebook profile and the YouTube profile. Names of entrants will not be disclosed to judges.

A winner will be chosen via the stated judging criteria. The winner will be announced on May 17, 2012 on the “Ready, Set, Wear It!” web site and the “Ready, Set, Wear It!” Facebook and YouTube accounts.

General Conditions: The winner will be notified by a traceable form of delivery and email or telephone. The winner will be required to provide within 96 hours, evidence satisfactory to the NSBC, a completed and signed Affidavit of Eligibility,Liability Release and a Publicity Release. Also, as determined by the NSBC, an assignment or license to the NSBC of all rights of ownership and copyright to the submitted video and a consent for the NSBC and contest partners to use the video, in whole or in part, as edited by the NSBC at its discretion, in all media, for educational and other uses, without additional compensation, prior review, or consent. In addition, a separate Talent Release Form signed by each individual appearing in the video will be required to be submitted. Failure to return the required documents in a timely way, or the return of any notification as undeliverable, will cause the entry to be void and an alternate finalist to be selected. All documents must be confirmed, ratified and signed by the finalist's parent or legal guardian. By participating, entrants agree to: (a) abide by these official rules and to the decisions of the judges and the NSBC and its agents in all matters, including the voting process, relating to the contest, which decisions shall be final in all respects; (b) release, indemnify and hold harmless the NSBC and our contest partners/sponsors from any and all claims, liabilities, losses or damages of any kind whatsoever, including but not limited to the infringement of intellectual property rights of others, resulting in whole or in part from their participation in the contest and the acceptance and use of the prize; (c) if a winner, consent to the use of their name, likeness and location for advertising and publicity purposes by the NSBC, in its sole discretion, for promotion of boating safety; and (d) represent that the video submitted is their sole and original work and does not infringe on the intellectual property right of any other party. Participants agree that the NSBC and its agents are not responsible for late, lost or misdirected entries or mail, or for error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of entry materials, or for technical, network, computer, hardware or software malfunctions of any kind, or inaccurate transmission of or failure of the NSBC and its agents to receive entries for any reason whatsoever or for any errors, mishaps or problems, regardless of the cause, in the voting process. In the event the NSBC determines that the integrity of the Contest has been impaired or corrupted for any reason and as a result cannot be offered or completed as planned, the NSBC reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel or terminate the contest and to select winners from among eligible entrants legitimately received prior to the event causing cancellation or termination; and notice of cancellation will be posted at
